Retro Launderette Pop Art Painting on Canvas
Retro Launderette Pop Art Painting on Canvas
In 2020 I received a book called Launderama as a gift, in which photographer Joshua Blackburn documents London's approximately 400 still-operational launderettes. Having always been always fascinated by nostalgic city scenes, I loved the book and immediately set out to create a painting based on this concept.
The latest launderette (or laundromat) painting of mine is the first I've done on canvas after the previous paper version sold. It isn't based on any particular photo, instead its taken the best of many of the details you'd see in a standard retro launderette. I used appealing pastel pink and yellows for the machines, contrasted against a classic black and white tiled floor, with a clock and washing up container detail.
The end result is a pleasing piece of retro pop art that would brighten up any room in the house.
It is painted in acrylics on a stretched cotton canvas. The painting goes around the edges so it can be ready to hang, and it's signed and dated on the back frame, as picture.
