Cooked Breakfast Pop Art Painting on Canvas
Cooked Breakfast Pop Art Painting on Canvas
Years ago, the first painting I ever sold was a pop art rendering of a cooked 'full english' breakfast on a square canvas. It's become a subject I like to revisit every few years because of that early sale, to see how my technique has developed.
The painting features a bacon rasher, a sausage, beans in a pot, a tomato, mushrooms, and a hash brown, making its first appearance in my work.
In this new version, one of the major changes is that I didn't use my usual black outlines to separate the objects. Instead I used Posca paint pens to achieve the stark outlines needed for the pop art effect. The second is that the food is on a plate.
I love reducing this traditional meal to simple colours and shapes, and using a neat, graphic impact, rather than 3D realism. The end result is a painting that would brighten up any room, although it'd probably most at home in the kitchen or breakfast room.
