Burger Telephone Two Panel Pop Art Painting on Canvas
Burger Telephone Two Panel Pop Art Painting on Canvas
This is part of a new series of paintings I completed in the summer of 2019 around the theme of discontinued foods, retro tech, and vintage design. The paintings were originally completed for display at an art gallery in Hackney Wick, London.
This canvas is split into two halves to show the classic kitsch hamburger style landline telephone. I always wanted one of these phones when I was younger but never had one. Nowadays I don't even have a landline phone of course, but I still love the colourful retro design of this kind of novelty telephone. Unlike a lot of my paintings this one shows a human hand holding the object, and two comic book style panels to show the phone open and closed. The simple pop art style and sky blue background are consistent.
The end result is a canvas that would brighten up any room in the house. There's a picture of me holding the painting to give you an idea of the relative size.
It is painted using acrylics and Posca paint pen on a stretched cotton canvas. It’s signed and dated on the back frame, as shown.
